Pioneer PL 540

Pioneer PL 540

Build around 1978-1979, the Pioneer PL 540 is essentially the PL 518 with quartz locking PLL hall motor, so the speed is perfect all the time.

It has a nice warm sound but not at the expense of detail.

Like the PL 518, haves auto return function, the tone arm returns to its arm rest when the album is over.

These old Pioneers are very solid units. And sought these days.

There really is nothing made today that is as solid as these old turntables and they still look great even after 35 years.

Like the 518, the 540 rubber on the feet of the turntable is known to break down over time. This one as not the original feet.

Fitted with a static balance type, S-shaped tonearm, Auto-Return and Quick-Start function, the PL-540's platter begin to rotate when you lift the tone arm and move it toward the outer edge of the platter. When the album is finished the tonearm automatically lifts and returns to the tonearm rest. Very simple.

All controls are grouped on the right-hand side of the platter to make handling easier. Also, on the right is the built-in strobe so you can check on the platter's accurate speed.

If you find one that is nice, you'll be very happy to got it. Honestly, you'll love this reliable turntable.
